  • Meta's launch of Threads, a new conversation app, has seen an overwhelming response with over 10 million sign-ups within seven hours of its launch. This rapid adoption, including a growing number of celebrities, positions Threads as a direct competitor to Twitter, especially in light of recent user dissatisfaction with Twitter's decision to limit the number of tweets that can be viewed in a day.
    • Migration:  While twitter has implemented a new tweet-viewing limit, Threads is currently offering unrestricted access to content.
    • Celebrity Influence: The early adoption of Threads by celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Gordon Ramsay, Tom Brady, and Coldplay could potentially influence their large fan bases to migrate to the new platform, further boosting Threads' user base.

    • Content Format: Unlike Twitter's 280-character limit, Threads allows posts up to 500 characters long and includes the ability to share links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length. This expanded format provides users with more flexibility and creative freedom in their posts.
    • User Control and Safety: Threads offers users more control over their interactions, with tools to manage who can mention or reply to them.
      • Users can also filter out replies containing specific words and have the ability to block, restrict, or report profiles. This focus on user control and safety could make Threads a more appealing platform for users seeking a positive and respectful online environment.
    • Interoperability with Other Networks:
      • Threads plans to make the app compatible with ActivityPub, an open social networking protocol. This means that Threads will be interoperable with other apps that support the ActivityPub protocol, such as Mastodon and WordPress.
      • This interoperability allows for new types of connections that are not possible on most social apps today, potentially expanding the reach and diversity of user interactions.
