A Global Opportunity For Scaling Technology Founders With Real World Impact

The World Economic Forum Technology Pioneers programme is now accepting applications for its 2026 cohort.  Each year, the Forum selects 100 early stage companies from around the world to join a two year engagement focused on emerging technologies and real world challenges affecting people and the planet. The programme brings founders into direct working relationships with senior leaders across government, business, and civil society.

Applications must be submitted by midnight Pacific Time on January 31, 2026.  The Forum notes that incomplete applications are saved for one week after the last activity. After that point, applicants must restart the process from the beginning.  The official application is hosted at the Technology Pioneers 2026 application portal.

Who The Programme Is Built For

According to the Forum’s published selection criteria, eligible companies must meet all of the following requirements:

The company must be developing a truly innovative technology or business model with the potential to create long term positive impact on society or the planet.

The company must have received Series A funding of at least $10 million USD.

The company must be less than 10 years old.

The company must be independent and privately held.

The programme targets companies that have moved beyond early experimentation and are beginning to scale, but are still early enough to benefit from policy, institutional, and global market exposure.

Looking at the most recent cohort is a good way for founders considering whether this opportunity fits their stage. In 2025, the World Economic Forum selected 100 companies from 28 countries to join the Technology Pioneers community. The group spans sectors such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, energy systems, quantum computing, food and water technologies, and space infrastructure, reflecting the Forum’s focus on companies building foundational technologies rather than consumer apps. The programme has recognized more than 1,200 companies since 2000, including early stage versions of Google, PayPal, Dropbox, Spotify, and SoundCloud, underscoring that selection tends to favour companies tackling large system level problems with long term relevance.

CEO Involvement Required

The World Economic Forum explicitly expects direct CEO engagement as part of the Technology Pioneers community. The Forum strongly encourages applications to be completed by the CEO personally so it can assess leadership motivation and long term intent. This is not a delegate driven programme.

Once selected, CEOs should expect to commit a minimum of five hours per quarter to Forum engagement and attend at least one global event per year during the two year term.  This time commitment matters and should be weighed carefully by founders before applying.

Technology Pioneers are invited to attend global meetings, workshops, and events hosted by the Forum, along with smaller, tailored gatherings for members of the Innovator Community.  This isn't a funding programme and not a marketing opportunity per the write up. The Forum positions Technology Pioneers as contributors to its work on emerging technologies rather than sponsors or exhibitors. The value comes from access, credibility, and sustained engagement rather than short term exposure.

Outlook

For Canadian fintechs and technology companies that have reached Series A and are beginning to think globally, this programme offers structured access to conversations that typically only happen much later in a company’s life.  It's best suited for founders who are ready to engage beyond product and fundraising and contribute time to global policy, market structure, and technology discussions while continuing to scale their business.  NCFA encourages qualified companies to review the criteria carefully and apply only if the programme aligns with their stage, capacity, and long term goals.
