SEC Launches Roundtable to Clear Up Crypto Rules

SEC Crypto Task Force to Host Discussions on Defining Crypto as a Security
The SEC's new Crypto Task Force led by Commissioner Hester Peirce aims to create fair guidelines for crypto companies, providing them a better way to register with the SEC while ensuring fair enforcement. As part of this effort, the SEC announced previously that they will hold a series of public roundtable discussions.

The first one will take place on March 21 2025 from 1:00 - 5:00 PM ET at the SECs headquarters on 100 F Street, N.E., in Washington D.C. and is called “How We Got Here and How We Get Out – Defining Security Status”. The event is open to the public and will be live streamed on the SEC’s website.
Roundtable Agenda
This first roundtable will focus on the elephant in the room, "When is a crypto asset considered a security?" The answer to this elusive question will how a crypto initiative is evaluated and whether a project needs to register with the SEC, follow strict investor protection rules, or face legal trouble. The roundtable will host opening remarks followed by a panel discussion with lawyers, academics, and industry experts, moderated by Troy Paredes (former SEC Commissioner). Zown advertises up to 8% back on rent, giving it a reason to start working with consumers years before many will be ready to buy a home. The 8% combines two potential rewards. Zown Money says Zown currently provides up to 4% cashback directly on rent, while an eligible credit card can add up to another 4% depending on the card's terms. The launch takes Wise further into everyday Canadian financial activity while keeping the cross-border tools that built its original customer base. The account is available to personal and business customers in Canada. The New Delhi Declaration confirms that the BRICS Payment Task Force has been studying cross border interoperability and the use of local currencies for trade settlement and investment. BRICS hasn't yet created a common payment network or digital currency. However, payment interoperability has moved into an official technical workstream rather than remaining a series of proposals from individual members. The progression has been fairly quick. India proposed stronger payment and central bank digital currency connectivity in January.
